An article from the WHS website about the construction of the memorial; written by a friend of Tori's:
Shakespeare’s Flower GardenThe Key Club plans to refurbish the high school courtyard as a memorial for senior, Tori Ferrell. Tori loved drama and was a fan of Shakespeare, so it is only fitting that the theme of the courtyard will be "Shakespeare's Flower Garden". Tori was involved in many clubs and activities here at Woodbridge.
She was an active member of the Key Club, prom committee, French Club, National Honor Society, yearbook committee, as well as the field hockey team. These clubs and activities, along with others in Woodbridge will have the opportunity of being a part of this memorial project. "The clubs and activities Tori was involved in will have first choice of being involved in the project," says Key Club advisor, Mrs. Nina Colegrove, "but the other clubs will have the opportunity of being involved with the project as well."
Any club or activity that would like to be a part of this project can donate either time or money to the courtyard in Tori's name. Plaques will be placed in each section of the courtyard that contain a quote from Shakespeare and the club that provided the labor or money for that section. Engraved on these plaques will also be the words "In loving memory of Tori Ferrell," to remember always the good friend that we have lost.
"I think it's a cool idea because she was so involved in everything, and I think it's good that we remember her. She did so much for the school and I think it's good that we do something in return," says friend and fellow Key Club member, Becky Warrington.
Not only will Tori's memorial be open to clubs throughout the high school, it will be a part of two student's senior projects. Senior, Kevin Hardy, will be donating his senior project, a bench, to the courtyard. Also, senior, Jeremy Messick, will be making a pond for the courtyard as his project. "The physical labor will start in the early spring," says Mrs. Colegrove. But like any major project, the planning and preparation for Tori's memorial will be an ongoing event.
Tori was killed in an automobile accident the day before Thanksgiving. She had been working on the yearbook all day in Mrs. Smith's room. Tori was on her way home when her car was struck by another that ran a red light.
